Chile: 50 Years of Solidarity and Struggle

11 September 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the US government supported military coup that overthrew the socialist government of Salvador Allende. To mark this occasion Alborada and Peace and Justice Project present an event of documentary and debate. The evening begins with a screening of the documentary The People’s Train of Culture (60 mins) – more info below. There will be a video introduction to the film by the director. Following the film, Member of Parliament Jeremy Corbyn (Peace and Justice Project) and former Chilean political prisoner Cristina Navarrete will explore the role that solidarity has played since the coup and how struggles for justice continue to this day. John McEvoy and Pablo Navarrete will briefly talk about a forthcoming Alborada Films documentary looking at the UK’s role in the death of Chile’s democracy and support for the Pinochet regime. Q&A chaired by Victor Figueroa-Clark (Alborada contributing editor and the author of ‘Salvador Allende: Revolutionary Democrat‘, Pluto Press, 2013).
